People who are serving their sentence of imprisonment under a parole order, may apply to Corrective Services to transfer their order to another state in which they wish to live. Such applications may relate to family responsibilities or work opportunities.
The Parole Orders (Transfer) Act 1983, provides for the interstate transfer of parole orders. Once a parole order is formally transferred to another state, that order becomes an order of the receiving state and is managed according to that state's laws.
For example, where a parole order is revoked after it has been transfered to the ACT from another state, 'clean street time' will not be taken into account, and where an ACT parole order is transfered to another state from the ACT and is later revoked, 'clean street time' may be considered.
The Secretary of the Board is responsible for administering the transfer of parole orders. The Secretary ensures that all relevant documents pertaining to parolees under transfer are sent or received in a timely fashion and records are kept detailing the circumstances and conditions of transfer.
