Further to my update of 26 May 2020, ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) continue to work towards the reinstatement of social contact visits.
At this stage I am unable to provide a confirmed date for the reinstatement of visits, however, if the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic continues within the ACT and surrounds, it is anticipated that this will be within the next month. It is important to note that with the current physical distancing requirements, once visits are reinstated there will be restrictions on both the number of visits permitted at any one time and the number of visitors permitted for each detainee.
I do recognise how difficult this ongoing situation is for all involved and I am sorry that I cannot be more specific regarding dates. It is our intent to reintroduce visits as soon as all necessary risk assessments and safety measures have been completed and implemented. The continued health and wellbeing of all within the AMC continues to be my priority in what remains a challenging period.I thank you for your patience and understanding as we try to keep the detainees in our care safe from COVID-19.
Kind regards
Jon
