Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your cooperation over the past few months as limited face-to-face visits recommenced at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC). I am pleased to advise with effect from Wednesday 9 December 2020, we will be making the following changes to face-to-face visits:
• Increasing visits sessions from five detainees per session to seven
• Each detainee will be allowed two adults and two children per visit session.
It is important to note that while these changes will occur, the following restrictions remain in place:
• Visitors must be registered by reconfirming their identity with ACTCS.
• Unfortunately, these visits will still be limited to immediate family and partners only.
• All visitors and detainees are required to remain in their allocated seating at all times during the visit.
• Physical distancing principles apply during visits. Unfortunately, no physical contact will be permitted between visitors and detainees, including children.
• Due to cleaning requirements, the following services and facilities will not be available during visits:
o Toilet facilities o Barista and vending machines
o The BBQ and outdoor play equipment
The interim arrangements are a requirement for ACTCS to continue to maintain appropriate physical distancing and will continue to be booked on a first come first served basis.
Visitors who are restricted from accessing social visits are still able to book an audio-visual visit with a detainee.
I acknowledge that these arrangements are still less flexible than pre COVID-19, however, they are necessary to protect the health and wellbeing of all within the centre. It is important that staff, visitors and detainees continue to show patience and understand and work together for the health and wellbeing of all. We will continue to review these arrangements as the COVID-19 situation changes.
