Located in two different areas of the Alexander Maconochie Centre, Sentenced and Remand units are designed, as the name suggests, for detainees who have either been sentenced or placed on remand. The units differ to the cottage style accomodation at the prison in that they are more secure (within a secure environment) and do not allow for detainees to prepare their own meals, providing as they do more of a "communal" rather than "group house" style accommodation.
Typically, detainees will enter units first and must earn cottage style accomodation privileges over the course of their sentence.
For those on remand, lower risk prisoners are typically housed in remand cottages with higher risk detainees housed in units. Both types of accomodation fall within the secure perimeter of the facility and are supervised.
