The Crisis Support Unit is a 10-bed unit for detainees assessed as being at high risk of self-harm, or of harm to others or from others as the result of a mental illness or other mental condition.
At times detainees with acute medical needs may also be accommodated in the Unit.
It is staffed 24-hours by correctional officers, allowing for close supervision of detainees. All cells have cameras to allow for remote monitoring of detainees.
The Unit is situated close to the Hume Health Centre to facilitate access by ACT Mental Health and Corrections Health staff.
The Unit Manager is a Psychologist, and liaises with ACT Mental Health and Corrections Health staff, providing specialist advice on the management of the risk posed by each detainee.
